RUO'S MEMBERS

The Board of Research Unit One (RUO) provides scientific direction and strategic guidance for the Centre's research, educational and international cooperation activities.

Board members promote advanced comparative legal research, with particular expertise in substantive and procedural criminal law across European and Euro-Mediterranean jurisdictions.

Their work focuses on the comparative analysis of legal systems, examining the interaction between Italian law, European Union legislation, international legal frameworks and the regulatory experiences of countries belonging to different legal traditions.

The Board actively supports the development of scientific partnerships, institutional collaborations and multidisciplinary research initiatives involving universities, public bodies, international organizations and professional networks.

Particular attention is devoted to the study of emerging challenges affecting criminal justice systems, including artificial intelligence and criminal justice, cybersecurity governance, digital evidence, organized crime, confiscated assets, anti-corruption policies and regulatory innovation.

A distinctive area of RUO's scientific activity concerns environmental crime, Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing, fisheries crime and food fraud, with special attention to enforcement mechanisms, sanctions, supply-chain integrity and the protection of the financial interests of the European Union.

Through research, policy engagement and executive education, the Board contributes to the development of innovative legal responses capable of addressing the complex challenges facing contemporary societies.
